Quinn Dombrowski on "Layers of Inequality: Digital Archives Beyond English"

This talk draws on experiences doing multilingual digital humanities work to elucidate an often-overlooked divide in archival access: between materials in English, and materials in any other language. Language-based barriers exist at multiple levels, equally applicable to scholars doing complex computational work, and scholars who just want to be able to do simple full-text search. The talk will cover a number of ongoing initiatives to improve access for scholars working in languages besides English, as well as strategies for supporting students who encounter language-based challenges in their archival work.
