Submitted to the 80th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, and winner of several awards, Caramel revolves around the lives of five Lebanese women who develop a strong sisterhood in a women-only space, a women's hair salon. The film explores several issues including aging, unrequited love, ailing parents, and social taboos. Despite dealing with serious issues, the film depicts the joys of friendship and the power of laughter in the face of misfortune.
